Power saving

If you’re an AMD processor user and an ATI graphics user, u might wonder do they have power saving abilities .. OH YEAH~ They do.. i jst found tat out recently..

For AMD processor, they have this thing called AMD ‘Cool and Quiet’.. What it does is it reduces the ratio/multiplier and the CPU Voltage when idle. As a result, u have lower core speed and requires less voltage… and thus saves energy. I managed to check this using CPU-Z, with visible multiplier, voltage and core speed keeps changing between idle and load time. But lately i cant do tat anymore.. Wonder why..

Next is ATI graphics.. well.. any ATI graphics comes with Catalyst Control Center.. All you need to do is to switch to Advanced View, and select ATI Overdrive.. Notice that it has GPU Clock and Memory Clock at the bottom side inside a white box under current values section? Mine is currently 250Mhz. It might be very low now, but when u run a game, minimize it, and check the ATI Overdrive, the CPU Clock will jump up to the max ! Which mine is 750 MHz.. so.. thats how they save power, by reducing the core speed.. !

Sorry, no screenshot, lazy wanna do it.. lolz

Computer Monitoring Software

Ever wonder what kind of hardware u got under ur big shiny CPU casing? Ever wonder which motherboard (mobo) model do u have so u can download all the drivers for it ? Ever wonder how much power ur graphics (GPU) has? Fear no more, cause i am here !

LMAO to my intro~ I gotta make it intersting rite? okay..1st is the CPUID Hardware Monitor.. What it does ? ALOT! It show voltages values, temperatures for chipset and processor, fan speed, fan speed utilization in %, GPU voltage and temp, and !! hard disk TEMP ! HoW CoOl Is TaT ! Even COOLER is it keeps record of the MIN and MAX value ! SUPER COOL! so now u can run a certain task, and see how HOT ur computer become ! HOT !

Next is !!! CPUID CPU-Z ! This software shows u the info on your mobo info, processor info, memore info. One thing bout tis software is tat u can check either u are running on dual channel memory, and also check ur memory speed.

NEXT !! NEXT !! GPU-Z ~ Whats it good for ? Well, i noticed lately tat u can actually monitor GPU Load and GPU Fan Speed ! and MemoryIO, DispalyIO and SHADER TEMP! COOL~ and not to mention GPU Load which can be useful if u’re using multi GPU and wanna see which runs more than the other ! Comes with MIN, MAX, AVG value in record too !! SUPER COOL ! but of course u need to select continue monitoring when minimized.. not to mention memory speed, core speed, and many MORE !

CPU-Z and Hardware Monitor can be found HERE! and GPU-Z HERE!. But keep in mind, if u’re mobo or gpu doesnt show any values, it might mean tat ur mobo doesnt have any sensors built into it, most common this will happen at older mobo or gpu, or mayb ur mobo is super new! u have to wait for updates.. HOHO~ ADIOS ~ CIAOS ~

Streamyxs BACK !

These few days, my internet has been a headache~ it happened when i cant login into streamyx using my acc username and pass… but the DSL light from my modem is stable~ so.. i made a complain…2 days  later…they fixed it.. but… i only managed to get 20 kbps download (tested with TM Speedometer).. of course i don’t like it at all.. so, tat nite, i called to complain again~ operator reset the port, but still inaffective. then tis morning i made another call, file a new report.. around 3.30 or 4pm, my internet DSL light was blinking~ i’m guessing it was the technition doing their job.. and i was right.. they call me to ask me to check the speed again.. and probably after 30mins, the DSL light was stable.. and i got 60 kbps.. at least i’ll survive.

So.. u’re wondering what can i totally make use of the TM hotline 100 ? Plenty i might say.. well, u can request for resetting the port or request to test the port status. I might request for those two tmr if my dl speed still slow.. if they found out that they cannot check the port status, big probability tat its faulty..same case as mine.. if u’re having any internet difficulties, i suggest doing those two mentioned above b4 u follow all their needed troubleshooting for filing a report..

Oh yea, always do a direct connection, which is from the telephone box, to ur modem with no router, and try to connect b4 u call 100.. cuz tats wat they’ll ask u to do. and if u did not do it b4, u hav to call them back again after setting up everything and be stuck waiting for available assistant.. oh yeah, and don be afraid to make complains at 100.. its just VERY simple.. my cousin once had internet problem..he don wanna complain using 100, = = dono shy or wat = = just choose the language u want, then internet services, and finally technical assistant..

i guess tats all… EAT MY CRAPPY ENGLISH !!

New Rig

Ah yes… i know that i havent update any news regarding to my new comp.. well, its completed for almost a month now.. the parts are

  1. AMD Phenom II x3 720 Black Edition 2.8Ghz
  2. MSI 790GX-G65
  3. 4GB Kingston 1333Mhz
  4. Sapphire HD 4770 512MB GDDR5
  5. AVF Casing with 500W PSU
  6. 640GB Maxtor Hdd

Total cost is RM2060. Its just over 2k. I din get a new LCD monitor cuz i wanna save back some money by using back my CRT monitor.. i guess future work are to get a new WS LCD monitor, add in another HD 4770 for crossfire, upgrade the power supply to a minimum 550W for crossfire use, aftermarket CPU cooler, overclockable ram (mobo supports 1600Mhz), add additional 120cm casing fan, and probably get a USB keyboard cuz the MSI mobo only has 1 ps/2 connector.

I really like the casing with its big front air intake that houses a 120cm casing fan, it came with a lausy fan, so i changed it to a better one, with multi color LED and has better air flow. I planned on getting a CoolerMaster casing, but its damn expensive here, plus it the PSU has to be bought separately..

Too bad my HD 3850 cant crossfire with the new HD 4770.. could save some money.. The HD 3850 cost me RM600 plus.. wonder who wana buy it since the price dropped to below rm300~~ …

Well.. i did benchmark my new pc to get a score and compare it with my old pc.. to see the difference and also the max performance… and also overclock both my phenom and hd4770 … too bad my ram isnt overclockable since its a value ram from kingston.

You might wonder why did i go for newest stuff rather than those one generation older cuz its cheaper. My answer is … since my old pc is running single core, and DDR1 ram, which can be considered old school, i might as well get the latest tech so that i dont have to upgrade again in the near future as games get more demanding..

I did alot of benchmarking for my new rig.. i’ll jst post here the result for VISTA 64Bit..I only use 3DMark Vantage, since its for gaming use.. Performance setting is 6770, while entree setting is 16320

Cant safely remove USB drives?

Once in a while, or probably always, that we have trouble in safely removing any usb drive.. and its really a headache if u cant safely remove a USB hdd after spending hours copying all the videos from a desktop or laptop.. u must have been wondering what ’stuff’ is currently accessing ur USB hdd/drives… well, i have a solution.. its Process Explorer !! from microsoft.. u can get it here..

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

How i use it, u might ask..

First thing to do is to active the lower panel view, click on View tab, and select Show Lower Pane

Next, u gotta find which process, they call it Handle or DLL, click on Find tab, click Find Handle and DLL, and type in ur USB drive letter, F:\ , G:\ , etc.. click search..U’ll notice the search result is the current Handle or DLL that is currently accessing ur USB drive now.. double click it..

After double clicking it, the Lower Pane will automatically jump to the current Handle or DLL that is currently messing u up.. thus, right click on it, and click Close Handle.. and voila..u  can safely remove ur USB drive.

thundermatch suckss !

zzz… ~ ~ my sis went to low yat to buy the motherboard tat i wanted.. so my sis went to thundermatch, which i old here to get it from there cuz its the cheapest, ann the 2nd shop is viewnet..

she arrived at thundermatch, requested for the motherboard, and the sales person came back 1 hour later saying its the last stock.. and my sis bought it = = … no wonder i felt why it took so long to buy a single stuf.. should’ve called her.. the last time i called her, she said she was in the monorail..turns out tat the board isnt in its usual anti-static plastic.. which obviously has been tempered with. haihz… kinda wondered why my sis waited 1 hour for it = =…

my sis gonna call the shop tmr and request for a change.. she even told me tat the salesman was quiet when she was being entertained.. i never saw this coming, if i knew, i’ll warn my sis earlier.. now i’m worried that the board is faulty.. definately want bring it back to kk until its exchanged or confirmed that its working.. now im worried bout it that i cant sleep, i cant think of any other stuff.. i personally would like to go to KL and buy it myself, but i have internship here  >< ~ ~ ~ ..hope it turns out well tmr..

sometimes u cant trust those lowyat salesperson.. they like to scam ppl that doesnt have knowledge on computing.. even the graphic card i bought from startec, a few bundled item wasnt included after i check it online.. darn~.. thats wat they normally do if they sell cheaper priced item, by reducing some bundled items..

so the lesson is

1. always check the things u wanna buy online, check for bundled items, how the inside looks like
2. every large electronic stuff (motherboard, graphics card) are sealed with an anti static plastic, if there is plastic, or the plastic is open, feel free to ask the salesperson
3. if the salesperson isnt convincing enuff or they jst look shitty, jst go to an
other shop that has better customer service. how u spend ur money is ur choice
4. dont act like a pro, dont be afraid to ask tonnes of stupid questions, even though u think u know it all.. the more u ask, the more u can find out..
5. take ur time to gather all the pricelist from each shops, sit down at a cafe, and study it all..select    the best pricing, etc
6. dont believe everything wat the salesperson tells u.. might be a bluff, might be real.. example, its the last item in stock, doesnt mean u need to buy it.. even if u do, check it properly
7. the cheapest the price, doesnt necessary mean its good
8. go buy the items urself, and follow ur instinct. dont ask other ppl for favors..if its the wrong item, u’ll jst blame urself, and kick urself
9. last and foremost, FUCK EM ALL~!

YES !! Regardless of my lack of funds.. i’m getting a new computer system.. DDR3, Quad core, Crossfire, HD4770.. hohohoho~~ ~ its time to change.. Time to move into DDR3.. I’m now using DDR1.. so lets jst skip DDR2 and go into DDR3 so tat i wont get outdated so fast… hohoh~ Below are my specs..

  1. AMD Phenom II AM3 X3 720 2.8Ghz (from HK)(Confirmed) *Update
  2. ASUS M4A79T-E (from KL) *Update
  3. Kingston DDR3 1333MHz 4GB (from HK) (Confirmed) *Update
  4. ATi HD4770 GDDR5 512MB (Confirmed)
  5. 640GB HDD Maxtor (Confirmed)
  6. Liteon DVD-RW (from HK)(Scrapped) *Update

*Updated
Ish.. the asrock mobo sold out in HK~ darn.. cant cut cost.. gotta change to asus mobo.. haihz.. Since HK doesnt have the asrock, i decided to get the Phenom II form HK.. Actly, i kinda tot tat u should stick with DDR2 AM2+ rig since the asrock isnt available.. i wanted asrock cuz its really cheap, n has the latest tech.. but its too late since i’ve bought the DDR3 and Phenom II..so, i’m still lack around RM700 for the mobo and casing..HD4770 says i need a 473 Watt power supply as a requirement.. hope i can get a RM100 casing with 500Watt power supply included..

Some of the parts are from HK cuz its cheaper there, and my dad n sis are there now on vacation , hohoho. The ASROCK mobo only cost RM330.. its worth it .. lowyat don have the mobo.. mayb they don plan to get it, cuz all the stock for DDR3 mobo wont be able to clear out cuz ppl might prefer ASROCK, or they might know DDR3 mobo can be cheaper..

And of course i wont go for crossfire now.. no money.. hahaha~ thus, its for future upgrade.. Ati HD4770 is damn cheap.. RM400 got a performance tat is better than NVidia 9800GT tat costs RM470.. and also the ATi HD4830 tat sells for RM 360.. WICKED ~

Hope my sis can get the stuff from HK, as i only browse for the item on one of the shop’s online listings..

Gaming Rig

AAA~ Its been 3 or 4 years since i last bought a new desktop for myself.. The last one i ever bought was when DDR2 is available and each 1GB stick cost double of the DDR1 and the emergence of Dual Core Processor. That is why, with a tight wallet, i had to buy the DDR1 and Single Core spec desktop, which i’m using right now.. But from 6600GT, i changed it to HD3850 which enabled me to play a few latest game during those times.. but now.. its goin outdated again. With new sequel games like F.E.A.R 2, Bioshock 2, Startcraft 2, Diablo 3, etc .. i doubt my now desktop can handle it..even CoD5:WoW is unbearable.. sad.. SO.. My next new gaming right should have :

1. At least a high end dualcore processor or a Quad Core
2. DDR3 mobo
3. ATi HD4770 (Out nxt month) A midrange GC, or hope to be higher
4. 500GB HDD
5. 19 inch LCD Monitor

I guess thats waht i want.. for the moment.. lolz.. Due to the economy crisis, electronic stuff are getting cheaper and cheaper.. Its the best time to buy.. Hopefully the prices will drop more for the next few months..

p/s : i almost had to re-type this post due to my router hang. crap.. lucily i din press back but i jst refresh it after re-boot my router..then, i jst select Resend.. it works.. woot
